Tyrese Haliburton Over 8.5 Assists
Not only does Haliburton rank 3rd in the NBA with 9.8 assists per game (along with James Harden), but he’s averaged 70.8 total passes made per contest (3rd-most) and leads the NBA with a whopping 21.3 potential assists per game. While the Pacers rank 7th in Pace and have clearly made an up-tempo style their early-season focus, this Bulls team has ranked right in the middle of the pack in that regard, so this won’t be a major pace-down spot for Haliburton.
The Bulls have allowed 26.3 assists per contest, which ranks in the bottom third of the league and boosts Haliburton’s potential even more in this matchup. I like him to get over this number, as Indiana’s entire offense runs through him.
LeBron James Over 8.5 Rebounds
I typically don’t enjoy making “gut picks”, but this immediately jumped off the board. The numbers do back me up, though, so it’s not entirely intuition-based. James averages 11.0 boards per contest through three games (15, 10 and then eight) and with Russell Westbook doubtful to play tonight, Brodie’s 11.7 average rebound chances should be up for grabs.
James has averaged 16.0 rebounding chances per game as it is and that should approach 20 tonight in what could be considered an early-season must-win for the winless Lakers. I expect max effort from LeBron and that could mean making an early impact crashing the glass on both ends of the floor.
