The NBA Draft betting market continues to grow as we lead up to the start, where the Detroit Pistons are set to take Cade Cunningham with the No. 1 pick.
But we are looking for betting action all night!
Here is a late first round prospect that I believe is set to go higher than expected.
McBride has shot up Draft boards leading up to Thursday’s event.
A defensive minded guard from West Virginia, he is going to be a useful bench weapon for playoff teams as soon as this coming season.
He has strong measurables, with a 6’9” wingspan despite being only 6’2” in shoes.
McBride's calling card is on the defensive end, posting a 3.1% steal percentage (2.5 is seen as above average and a sign of great defensive instincts). With unique length for a player of his size, his defense should translate to the next level well.
On the offensive end, he shot 41% from beyond the arc, but struggled finishing at the rim. 'Deuce' posted a sub-50% effective field goal percentage despite shooting at such high clip from the three-point line.
Overall though, his offensive game grades at well. He was an efficient passer, posting a near 3:1 assist to turnover ratio, and the three-point shot will garner respect in the NBA.
All in all, I see contending teams falling for his defense. We have seen young players make an impact in the postseason with pesky defense and shot making to be a threat on offense -- look at Terance Mann for the Clippers this postseason.
With the Phoenix Suns picking No. 29, I see that as a great fit and a nice floor for him on Draft night. With Cameron Payne likely leaving the Suns for payday elsewhere, McBride can fill in as a point guard for the second unit. Teams picking in the 20’s such as the Hawks, Knicks, Clippers, and Nets make sense as well.
I’d play this up to -140, but see the 29.5 as a key number.
