The 2024 World Series has been completely lopsided to this point, with the Los Angeles Dodgers out to a 3-1 lead over the New York Yankees, and looking to close the series out tonight in the Bronx. It certainly isn’t over until the last out is recorded, but no team has ever come back from a 3-0 deficit in the World Series, and only one team has ever done that in MLB Postseason history. So, it will take a monumental effort on the Yankees part to bring a championship to New York at this point.

Speaking of monumental efforts, Dodgers superstar Freddie Freeman is giving one right now in the World Series. He’s the first player in MLB history to hit a home run in each of the first four games of the World Series, and has now hit a homer in six straight World Series games going back to the last time he competed in the series. He has been a revelation, and is a large reason why Los Angeles has taken such a dominating lead in this series with his timely home runs.

As a result of his incredible run, his odds to win World Series MVP have totally spiked, which is unsurprising. He is now a massive favorite to win the award, sitting at -1000 at BetMGM. To put into perspective how good he has been, he was 25/1 to win World Series MVP before the series began, and now you have to lay 1000. That is a drastic odds change, and at this point, it would be hard to envision anyone else taking it home with his power surge.

I will admit, I did not see this coming. In fact, if you take a look back at my writing for Game 1 of the series, I was looking to fade Freeman due to his injuries he has been dealing with all postseason. It was clear he wasn’t playing at 100% entering the series, as he was batting just .241, which is way off from his usual average of over .300. However, it seems he is quite healthy now, and has been just ripping the baseball unlike anything we have ever seen.

Obviously, there is no value in betting him now at -1000. The sportsbooks would be very happy if he continues this run, because what it is doing is taking Shohei Ohtani out of the spotlight. The biggest liability at BetMGM to win the award was Ohtani by a large margin, and they are more than happy to pay out Freeman, who wasn’t even in the top-5 in terms of total handle. Ohtani is now 100/1 to win World Series MVP, which tells you they are popping champagne at BetMGM.

Shockingly, New York’s Anthony Volpe is second on the odds board right now at 16/1, as the rookie has been swinging a hot bat in this series. I don’t think anyone would have expected that either, but with how awful the Yankees offense has been so far, we have come to that point.

Even if you aren’t betting at all on this series, you just have to take in what you are seeing from Freeman right now. This is an important part of baseball history, a stretch that people will remember for a long time to come.
