Dan Karpuc: Phillies-Padres Under 6.5
This is a great pitching matchup between Philadelphia’s Zack Wheeler (0-1, 2.19 ERA) and Yu Darvish (2-0, 3.00 ERA). Active Padres hitters have slashed .228/.307/.360 against Wheeler, while active Phillies hitters have slashed .209/.243/.364 against Darvish, so both starting pitchers should have slight edges on the mound despite the stars who will step up to the plate for both teams. Not only that, but San Diego’s bullpen has pitched to a 2.19 ERA in the postseason, which is wildly impressive considering the fact that they’ve faced the Mets and Dodgers. While Philly’s bullpen has logged a 4.15 ERA, they’ve surrendered a 1.02 WHIP, which suggests they’ve gotten a bit unlucky. I know this total is low, but I still like the under.

Lucy Burdge: Yankees ML -170 vs. Guardians
As much as I hate to say it, I think the Yankees will beat the Guardians in this decisive ALDS Game 5. They have the advantage of being at home and, yes, Nestor Cortes is pitching on three days of rest, but he said he is ready to empty the tank in this game and I believe him. If the Yankees’ bats can heat up tonight, I think the Yankees can take down the Guardians and move on to the ALCS.

Brad Pinkerton: Phillies +1.5 at Padres

Hard to imagine NLCS Game 1 being anything but a low-scoring pitchers duel. If so, that gives the underdog Phillies a great chance to keep this close, if not win, especially with Wheeler on the mound. The Phillies are 37-22 ATS this season as underdogs, including 27-16 ATS as road 'dogs. Meanwhile, the Padres are just 31-52 ATS at home, second-worst mark in baseball, 44-70 as favorites and 23-45 as home favs. While it's true the Padres are playing like a totally different team right now, there clearly wasn't any "homefield advantage" during the season, and I like the Phillies to remain tough on the road in this series.
