Win And In: 4 Teams Control Own Destiny In Week 18

Win and you’re in. This is the fate that all three teams below face as we head into Week 18. The Tennessee Titans (7-9), Jacksonville Jaguars (8-8), New England Patriots (8-8) and Green Bay Packers (8-8) can all earn their way into the postseason with a victory. While other teams could get in with some help (including some of these), all four are going to be playing with desperation.

Titans (7-9) vs. Jaguars (8-8) For AFC South Division

Game Details: Sunday 8:15pm EST (ABC)

Situation: Titans must beat Jaguars on road to advance to playoffs (AFC South Division winner). Jaguars would clinch the division title with a win, but if they lose, the Dolphins, Steelers and Patriots would all need to lose for them to get the No. 7 Wild Card spot.

With Ryan Tannehill injured and rookie Malik Willis seemingly not ready to be an NFL player, the Titans have announced that Joshua Dobbs will make his second consecutive start in this must-win game. Dobbs made his first start of the year last week when he went 20-for-39 for 232 yards, a touchdown and an interception in a 27-13 loss to the Cowboys, but that was enough for him to earn another opportunity likely due to the fact that Derrick Henry (hip) sat out that game. It’d be surprising if Henry sits out this decisive contest as Tennessee will look to avenge their 36-22 December 11 home loss.

Jacksonville needs to win this game as well to guarantee a playoff berth, which should create an intense, physical battle. The Jags put a 31-3 whooping on the Texans last week and are riding a four-game winning streak into this one. If they lose, they’ll need some help (as described above). Patriots (8-8) at Bills For No. 7 AFC Wild Card Spot

Game Details: Sunday 1:00pm EST (CBS)

Situation: Must beat Bills in Buffalo to guarantee playoff berth (can also make it if they lose and Dolphins lose, Steelers lose and Jaguars win).

Somehow, Bill Belichick and his staff of failed head coaches have led their team to a win-and-you’re-in situation. Based on their standards, this has been a very shaky season for the Patriots, but that has essentially summed up the post-Brady era. Buffalo took down New England 24-10 in Foxborough back on December 1 and this Patriots team has lost four of their last six contests heading into this one.

Packers (8-8) vs. Lions For No. 7 NFC Wild Card Spot

Game Details: Sunday 8:20pm EST (NBC)

Situation: Must beat Lions at home to advance to playoffs.

Not so fast. Aaron Rodgers hasn’t put up any eye-popping numbers, but this team has won four games in a row to get back to .500 and their defense has been stellar. Green Bay has allowed 19, 12, 20 and 17 points during their current streak and just hung 41 on the Minnesota Vikings in Week 17.

Under coach Matt LaFleur, the Packers have gone 16-1 SU (+16.2 units, 95.3% ROI) coming off a win over a division rival. That’s certainly a trend to take note of.
