Roughnecks (34) at Vipers (27)

HOU (-6.5): 67% Public Bet

As the week rolled on, Houston’s status as the favorite in this game was firmly cemented, as they opened as five-point favorites and closed at 6.5-point favorites. A firm majority of public bettors backed them against the spread, as indicated by the fact that 67% of tickets were bet on the visiting team. Although it took huge performances out of quarterback P.J. Walker and wideout Cam Phillips, the Roughnecks took care of business and not only beat the spread, but improved to a perfect 3-0 on the early campaign. It wasn’t pretty, but Houston was on the right end of a back-and-forth affair and, most importantly, covered. The Roughnecks improved to 3-0 on the year while the Vipers are the league’s only winless team at 0-3.

Guardians (9) at BattleHawks (29)

NY (+315): 60% Public Bet

The allure of New York’s +315 moneyline was enough to attract 60% of public bets due to the clear upside, but the BattleHawks had a gigantic home debut in front of 30,000 raucous fans in St. Louis and was in control throughout the contest. As predicted in my Week 3 Best Bets article, the home team was able to impose their ground-and-pound strategy and effectively established the run. In fact, quarterback Jordan Ta’amu went just 12-of-18 passing for 119 yards while the team rushed the ball 37 times. Meanwhile, New York is in shambles and had three different quarterbacks take snaps in the hopes of making something happen on offense. That didn’t work. The BattleHawks improved to 2-1 on the year while the Guardians fell to 1-2.

Defenders (9) at Wildcats (39)

OVER 44: 66% Public Bet

This was the most shocking result of the Week 3 slate by a wide margin. If someone told you the score to this game would be 39-9, the vast majority of XFL bettors would have surmised that the Defenders would be the winning team. However, those who bet the over didn’t care, as it got over the 44-point mark when D.C. running back Nick Brossette broke a 38-yard rush for a touchdown with 7:33 left in the fourth quarter. An overwhelming 66% of public bets were wagered on the over in this contest and cashed in as a result. The Wildcats improved to 1-2 on the year while the Defenders are now 2-1 after their first defeat.

Renegades (24) at Dragons (12)

UNDER 42.5: 65% Public Bet

Brandon Silvers got the Dragons off to a decent start, throwing two first-half touchdown passes en route to a 12-6 halftime lead. But, Landry Jones and company scored 12 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to break a 12-12 tie to earn the win. Three of Dallas’ fourth quarter possessions concluded with points (one touchdown, two field goals) while Seattle was forced to punt twice, turned the ball over and had the ball as the final whistle blew. If the Dragons scored one touchdown down the stretch, the over could have easily hit due to the 42.5 point total, but luckily for the 65% of tickets that supported the under, it didn’t! With the loss, the Dragons fell to 1-2 while the Renegades improved to 2-1.
