The lineup isn’t as impressive as in Parma in the same week. Only 1 top 30 player – Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova who is the top seed with Yulia Putintseva, Shuai Zhang and Paula Badosa wrapping up the top 4 highest ranked players of the event.
Pavlyuchenkova picked up some steam in Madrid scoring 4 underdog wins before losing to Aryna Sabalenka. This was actually the first time since Australian Open 2020 where she was able to win 4 or matches in a row. The Russian is not known to be a clay courter by any means, except her record on Grass, the red is her 2nd worst surface to play on with hard court and Indoor hard being the best ones all time for her.
Paula Badosa is the highest seed the Russian could face if both made it to the semifinals. The Spaniard has improved a lot since the beginning of the year where she was 70, up to a career high of 42 propelled by her recent runs in Charleston and Madrid. 8-2 record on clay this year and all time record of 104-58 on clay with a 23.7% ROI she has been a good money maker for her backers over the last couple of years scoring often upsets as a moderate underdog between +100 and +240.
Bottom of the draw where Yulia Putintseva is the highest ranked player and no.2 seed we have a see saw battle where is anybody’s guess who wil come out on top.
Yulia is just 10-9 overall on the year with -24.6% ROI while other players around her such as Shuai Zhang hasn’t won a match since last year’s French Open and is 0-6 on the year and her recent draws might have been bad she had good chances to stop the streak but wasn’t able to do it.

It’s expected a lot from Serbian Olga Danilovic. She received a wild card here and has been training at the Novak Center from quite some time and even under the guidance of Novak himself she is familiar with conditions and could explode in a deep run. Her draw is ok, and as already mentioned many players around her in the bottom part of the draw have no sort of momentum and their clay records aren’t great either and while girls such as Badosa and Pavlyuchenkova will contest in the top part for a place in the final why not the young Olga causing some havoc?
In her run in 2018 in Moscow on clay, when she was 17 years old, she defeated Goerges, Kanepi and Sasnovich to capture the eyes the title and showed her enormous potential . She has struggled since though, after breaking top 100 in October 2018 she now stands at 164 , but expecting lot of big things from her here.
Despite she admits that her favorite surface is hard, her 1st WTA title came on clay.
Looking for Badosa to be able to run to the final and why not the title, as she has my upmost trust from the weaker player field on display in Belgrade. No confidence at all from the bottom part where as I already mentioned is really hard to come up with a good lean or verdict about anyone.
