The Time Is Now

The Edmonton Oilers begin their preseason schedule on Sunday, September 26th and hopes are high for the upcoming year.

Superstars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl will lead the club and both are projected to finish among the league’s top goal scorers.

McDavid (+400 consensus odds) has the second-best odds to lead the NHL in goals scored. He ranked second in the league with 33 goals scored in 56 regular-season contests last year. Draisaitl (+475 consensus odds) has the third-best odds to lead the NHL in goals scored. He ranked fourth in the league with 31 goals scored in 56 regular-season contests last year.

“I’m definitely thinking the time is now,” McDavid said recently, per the Edmonton Sun. “I’m 24 years old. (Darnell) Nurse and Leon (Draisaitl) are 26, 25 years old. Nuge is 28. The excuse that we’re young guys is no longer.

“As a group, I think the time is now to start really pushing this thing. I thought Kenny (GM Holland) and the management team did a great job, brought in a lot of new faces.

Now it’s on the players and coaching staff to put it together. We have high expectations for ourselves. We’ve been building something here for the last couple of years and it’s time to put it all together.”

After going through years of a rebuild, the Oilers put together back-to-back solid regular seasons, but haven’t advanced in the playoffs in McDavid’s career. However, they brought in Duncan Keith, Zach Hyman, Warren Foegele, Derek Ryan and Cody Ceci during the offseason and now have more depth and veteran presence than they have in recent memory.

The Oilers’ elite star power and mix of veteran talent makes them a fantastic value at +2900 to win the Stanley Cup.
