Money Line

The Blues came through in a big way in Game 4, winning on their home ice in what was likely a must-win situation. Now the series will head back to Boston for Game 5 and sharp money is piling in on Boston in this spot as -150 favorites. The 56/44 split in terms of total tickets on the Bruins isn’t too striking, but the massive 87/13 split in total money on Boston is eye-opening. Sharp bettors are likely viewing the current line of BOS -150 as a value given that Boston was favored at -165 at home in Game 2 and -170 in Game 1. Neither team has been able to string together consecutive wins thus far in this series but that clearly isn’t a trend that sharp bettors are worried about. Boston has some injury concerns with D Matt Grzelcyk and D Zdeno Chara both game-time decisions to play.

Puck Line

It shouldn’t be shocking that the Bruins are also massive favorites among sharp bettors against the puck line after getting so much attention in the money line market. Boston is seeing an even higher percentage of total money against the puck line at 90% at +180 odds. It makes a lot of sense given that both of Boston’s wins in this series have come by multiple goals. It also should be noted that the books must feel confident in this line as we have seen reverse line movement in favor of St. Louis after the puck line odds opened at BOS +170.

Total

The total has seen a much more sensible spread in terms of money on both sides with a 57/43 split in favor of the over of 5.5 goals. The total has been set at 5.5 in every game of this series and has gone over in Games 1, 3, and 4. The Boston defense may be without two of their top defensemen with Matt Grzelcyk and Zdeno Chara game-time decisions. If one or both of them sit, then the chances of the over hitting go up slightly and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the over odds drop to the +110 range (the over sits at +125 at the time of this writing).
