Lock Of The Year

Vegas is the odds-on favorite to win their division and for good reason.

The Pacific Division is widely considered to be the worst division in the NHL. It is is comprised of the Vegas Golden Knights, three average Canadian teams, an expansion team and three rebuilding teams in California. Last season, the Golden Knights finished tied for the best record in the league.

They finished with the second-best 5-on-5 goal differential in the league, and they had the 8th-best expected-goal rate. They are far and away the best team out west. Marc-Andre Fleury is now in Chicago, but I don't expect it to really make that much of a difference for Vegas.

Robin Lehner takes over as the starting goaltender in Vegas, and he's been one of the best goalies in the league over the past three seasons. He always has deserved to be a starter somewhere, but he hasn't really landed that chance. Here you go, Robin. The Golden Knights defense is good, and will make it that much easier.

With Mark Stone and Max Pacioretty up front, this is a roster that is loaded with talent. They have two legit No. 1 defensemen in Shea Theodore and Alex Pietrangelo at the back end of the team. The depth is crazy good with players such as William Karlsson, Jonathan Marchessault and Alec Martinez.

Question Is, Do You Want To Pay The Juice?

Will Vegas win this division a majority of the time? I think so. There isn't really much competition. The question becomes if you want to lay a -165 ticket on a season long future.

I don't expect many people to be willing to lay that kind of juice on a bet that will tie up their money for the next six months. Vegas is clearly the best team in this division, so if you are comfortable with that, I would say this is as close to a futures lock as it gets.
