NHL Betting Playbook for Saturday

Saturday's NHL trends are collected and ready to go for Round 2 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Let's take a look at what you should know before betting on the NHL postseason game.

One trend to note is that the BetQL NHL model has gone 23-15 (61%) on 3-star and above NHL picks in the past 7 days for a total return of $482 on $100 bets, so you'll definitely want to know who the model is picking in these awesome second-round matchups.

There is some sort of force beyond what we can comprehend at work in the NHL Playoffs this season, and that force has been focusing in on the Carolina Hurricanes. It seems that it has made Carolina absolutely unstoppable on their own home ice, as the team is an incredible 7-0 playing at home in the postseason. However, that comes with a bit of a penalty.

The Hurricanes have yet to win a single game on the road all postseason, going an astounding 0-5 away from Carolina. Usually that would spell disaster for most teams, as winning on the road is a key to victory, but not here. Carolina has made it this far by just taking care of business at home. They are lucky they were the higher seed in both the first and second round.

In Game 6, it will be the Rangers playing at home, which I guess makes them the lock of the century playing against this Hurricanes team. However, it isn't like they are playing poorly on the road in this series. Carolina holds sizable advantages in Corsi For percentage (54.98%) and expected goals percentage (55.90%) at 5-on-5 in this series. They are outplaying the Rangers, but that's hockey for you. Carolina won twice in New York in the regular season by scores of 4-2 and 4-3. The Hurricanes won 25 of 41 road games in the regular season but have lost all five road playoff games by a multi-goal margin. This is an amazing sport that doesn't make sense sometimes.

New York needs to win in order to survive, but they couldn't have a better opponent than the Hurricanes on the road to do just that. Their opponent has an inability to win away from home, and New York has been very good at home in the postseason, and the regular season for that matter. New York went 27-10 at home in the regular season and have won five straight in the playoffs. They're averaging 4.2 goals per game in that stretch and won four of those games by multiple goals.
