We start things off in Philadelphia, where the Flyers have been losing games left and right for 10 straight games now. After a hot start to the year, we knew they would fade eventually with the lack of talent on this team, and that collapse has been in full swing for a while now. Philly is just really bad offensively, as they score just 2.32 goals per game and take only 28.7 shots each time out. They get dominated in puck possession, and if they play any team that is proficient in that, it likely will be a blowout. Goaltending saved them early quite a lot, but that isn't sustainable over the long term when the defense is letting up 33 shots per game.

The Islanders are a team that I've really liked over the past couple of years, but this season, their great start has been a bit different in my eyes. As with the Flyers, they have been getting some outstanding goaltending to start the year from Ilya Sorokin and backup Semyon Varlamov, who have combined to allow just 2.48 goals per game. However, again like Philadelphia, the defense is allowing 33 shots against per contest, which is just too many. Eventually, pucks are going to start going in the net if they keep allowing that kind of pressure.

MY PICK: The Islanders just whipped the Flyers in New York in their last game, but this one is in Philadelphia. At some point, the Flyers have to win, and the Islanders on the road aren't a team that is unbeatable. Very small bet, but I'd sprinkle Flyers ML at a large number. I'd say +1.5 is a safer bet if you would go that route.

This should be one of the better games of the night when the Tampa Bay Lightning take on the seemingly-unstoppable Boston Bruins. Tampa hasn't been the super team that they have been for the past three seasons, but they have been respectable so far after a rough start. They have won four of their last five games, and they are looking to stay hot here on the road against a dangerous Bruins team. The Lightning offense has been great, as we would expect from this team. They are scoring 3.57 goals per contest and getting 31.3 shots on goal each game. The defense and goaltending has taken a step back from previous years, but it is still about average, allowing 3.19 goals per and 31.2 shots.

Boston has been the powerhouse in 2022, and it's hard to argue that anyone has been better than they have. In all facets of the game, the Bruins have dominated. Offensively, they are scoring four goals per game and taking 34.6 shots, which are two of the best number in the league for those stats. On defense, Boston is allowing 30 shots per game and an astounding 2.24 goals. With that combination of offense and defense, you get a team that is very hard to beat.

MY PICK: Boston at home is a total juggernaut, but Tampa is really hot right now, with the only match they have lost in their last five being against this same Bruins squad. They will be looking for some revenge here, and I they are certainly good enough to win this game. I'll sprinkle Tampa on the ML, or take the safe play at +1.5.

The final game we're looking over is the late night clash between the Seattle Kraken and Los Angeles Kings. Most people would look at this game and think it stinks, but in actuality, both of these teams are very good. The Kraken, after being an expansion franchise in 2021, have been fantastic in their second season. They are averaging 3.57 goals per game and only allowing 2.86 per game, which is one of the better differentials in the NHL. Curiously, they are only taking 29 shots per game, so maybe that offensive output will start to come down a bit, but the defense has been outstanding. They allow just 27.2 shots per game, which has really helped out their net minders.

The Kings are a team everyone thinks is overrated, but I actually like them. Sure, their goaltending has struggled this season, but it has gotten better as we have moved further into the year. The offense has cooled off after a really hot start, but they still are getting 32.3 shots on target each game, and scoring 3.17 goals. The defense has really improved since the start of the year where they were giving up over 35 shots a game, and now are allowing just 29.7. That has helped the goaltending tremendously, as you would expect, so things are starting to balance themselves out.

MY PICK: These teams are pretty even if you ask me, with Seattle maybe having the slight advantage. Take whoever is getting plus-money here, as that is where the value will be.
