The NHL’s Stanley Cup playoffs are rolling along and bettors are throwing down big bucks on championship odds. The New York Islanders lead their series against the Boston Bruins 3-2, the Montreal Canadiens just completed their sweep of the Winnipeg Jets, and BetMGM has released some data on a couple of big bets on which teams will prevail in these playoffs.

(Odds courtesy of BetMGM

The Islanders beat the Bruins 5-4 on Monday night and have earned the confidence of one bettor who wagered $5,000 to win $100,000 on New York at +2000 to win the Stanley Cup. Meanwhile, the Canadiens beat the Jets 3-2 Monday night for that series sweep and another bettor put down $5,000 to win a whopping $150,000 on Montreal to reach the Stanley Cup Finals. The Islanders are getting 3.3 percent of the tickets and 6.2 percent of the handle to win the Stanley Cup, while the Canadiens are receiving 2.1 percent of the tickets and 1.4 percent of the handle. The Bruins, meanwhile, are getting 5.3 percent of the tickets and 5.5 percent of the handle.

BetMGM has also seen some notable line movement in these playoffs. The Colorado Avalanche opened at +1100 to win the Stanley Cup and those odds are now at +225. Colorado’s series against the Vegas Golden Knights is tied 2-2 with their next game on Tuesday night. Speaking of the Golden Knights, they opened at +1000 to win the championship and their odds are now at +375. The Avalanche are getting 35.3 percent of the tickets and 40.1 percent of the handle to win the Stanley Cup, while the Golden Knights are receiving 11.6 percent of the tickets and 10.7 percent of the handle.

The Tampa Bay Lightning opened at +1000 to win it all and those odds are now +250. I’m sure those +1000 odds shortened a lot after Tom Brady’s hype video.

Colorado is also the biggest liability at BetMGM, followed by the Golden Knights, and the Lightning as the third-biggest liability. The Lightning are getting 7.5 percent of the tickets to win the championship and 6.9 percent of the handle. Nice.

They say there’s nothing like playoff hockey, but there are also very few things like winning $150,000, so keep an eye on these playoffs, odds, and possible huge payouts. Also, visit our NHL page for more information on this game and all of our Best Bets.
