Trends And NFC East Chances

The Philadelphia Eagles are in first place in the NFC East, but it sure doesn’t feel like it. The team is struggling to stay ahead of one of the worst divisions in NFL history. Through 11 weeks, the Eagles (3-6-1) have been outscored by 34 points. They’ve lost two games in a row to the New York Giants and Cleveland Browns, and have an absolutely daunting schedule ahead of them.

Optimists can argue that injuries are the main reason for Philadelphia's struggles, but everyone watching these games knows that Carson Wentz looks nothing like he did in his 2017 season. Through 10 games, Wentz is only completing 58.4 percent of his passes and has the same amount of touchdowns as interceptions (14). To be fair, Wentz's offensive weapons have been injured for much of the season, but those numbers must improve for the Eagles to compete with their upcoming schedule.

The under has hit in four-straight Eagles games and they've failed to cover in two-straight.

Speaking of their schedule, Philly begins a treacherous stretch starting with this game against Seattle. After that, the team will face the Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, and Arizona Cardinals before finishing up the season against the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Football Team. The Eagles won't be favored in any of their next four games, and it’s imperative for them to steal one or two.

Still, the Eagles (+155) are favored to win the NFC East, per FanDuel Sportsbook.

Righting The Ship

The Seahawks got back on track with a big 28-21 win against the Cardinals to remain tied for first in the NFC West. The NFC West has been the opposite of the NFC East this season. Los Angeles and Seattle sit atop the division with records of 7-3 with Arizona right behind them at 6-4. There’s a lot more competition out west this season.

Seattle (+105) is favored to win the NFC West, per BetMGM. However, the Seahawks (+125) are second-favorites to win the division on DraftKings Sportsbook.

Because of this, the Seahawks have to take care of the games they’re supposed to. While Philadelphia is traditionally a tough place to play, the Seahawks won’t have to deal with the normal, raucous crowd this time around. The Eagles are 2-2 at home this season while the Seahawks are 2-3 on the road.

Seattle is hoping to get Chris Carson back in the fold after missing a number of games due to a foot injury. Carlos Hyde filled in admirably a week ago against Arizona, but Carson gives this team a much different look, as they can pound the ball 25 times successfully.

After Russell Wilson was considered a lock for the MVP award early on, his simmer has sizzled a bit as of late. He’s been turning the ball over a bit more than usual, and his numbers haven’t been as impressive as they were early in the season. Against Arizona, Wilson threw for only 197 yards, but was efficient, completing 23-of-28 attempts for two touchdowns.

Safe Bet?

Luckily for Eagles, all they need to do is win a couple of games and they’re nearly guaranteed a playoff berth. This one will be hard to get, though, as Wilson is one of the hardest players to stop. The Eagles' offense hasn't shown the ability to keep up with the more explosive offensive attacks. Philadelphia should need to post 25 or more points to win this game, something they may not be capable of right now. Seattle (-255) doesn't have a large return on investment straight up, but they feel like a safe bet.
