This Week 12 NFL Trend Is Simply Ridiculous

The New England Patriots (7-4) host the Tennessee Titans (8-3) in Week 12. The Patriots opened as -2.5 home favorites, but that moved all the way to -5.5 after Week 11 action. 

On Thursday, the Patriots shut out the Atlanta Falcons 25-0 and won their fifth straight game. Then, the Titans suffered an embarrassing 22-13 home loss to the Houston Texans. Tennessee was a 10-point favorite in that game and they were outplayed on both sides of the ball by one of the worst teams in football.

All of a sudden, the outlook for both teams is heading in different directions, especially since the absences of both Derrick Henry and Julio Jones were finally felt by Tennessee against an inferior opponent.

Considering the trend you’ll see below, there’s a major reason to bet on the Patriots to continue their ascension on Sunday.

• Under Bill Belichick, the Patriots have gone 20-1 straight-up (+22.3 units) after allowing 4.0 or less yards per play in their last game. New England allowed just 3.2 yards per play against the Falcons, which activates this trend. 

Over their last three games, New England’s defense has allowed 207.3 total yards per game, the best mark in the NFL by 63.0 yards in that span. Oh, and they’ve outscored their opponents 94-13 in those games. 

Per The Athletic’s Jeff Howe, the Patriots defense enters this week’s game having surrendered 0 points in 19 consecutive possessions. Over their last 26 possessions, New England’s defense has scored 13 points and allowed 7. 

That’s just ridiculous.
