The odds for the Detroit Lions to win anything this season are not great. They are 7.5-point underdogs in their Week 1 matchup with the San Francisco 49ers and their betting odds to win the NFC are +10000 (odds courtesy of BetMGM). Their odds to win the Super Bowl opened at +8000 and are now +25000. And someone put hundreds of dollars on these odds.
One bettor at BetMGM took $700 and instead of just lighting it on fire, put it on the Lions at +25000 to win the Super Bowl. To be fair, if Detroit does end up stunning the world, this bettor would win $175,000.
Another bettor put $200 on the Philadelphia Eagles to win the Super Bowl at their +10000 odds, which would end up being a $20,000 payout. The Eagles opened at +5000 to win it all before that line moved to +10000.
But people are actually betting more on Detroit than they are on Philadelphia. The Lions are getting 2.3 percent of the tickets and 1.1 percent of the handle to win the Super Bowl, while the Eagles are receiving 1 percent of the tickets and 0.3 percent of the handle.
The Kansas City Chiefs are the favorite to win the Super Bowl at +450, followed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at +650. The Buccaneers are getting the highest percentage of the tickets, with 16.6 percent, and the handle, at 24.5 percent. The Chiefs are getting the second-highest to win the Super Bowl, with 11.1 percent of the tickets and 12.5 percent of the handle.
Keep an eye on these odds as the season gets closer. I, for one, can't wait to see what happens to that $700.
