  • The Indianapolis Colts received a gut punch before the 2019 season when Andrew Luck retired; however, they have a revamped offense for 2020 that should be a joy for fans to watch.

  • The addition of Philip Rivers at quarterback is a game-changer for Indianapolis.

  • The Colts didn’t necessarily need another running back, but drafting Jonathan Taylor will further strengthen Indy’s rushing attack.

  • Pundits are expecting Michael Pittman Jr. to be among the most impactful rookie wide receivers in 2020.

Familiar Face For Rivers

The Colts managed to get by with Jacoby Brissett at quarterback last season; however, bringing in Philip Rivers is a step up. To be fair, Rivers is no longer in his prime and coming off a rough season for the Chargers in 2019. Still, the veteran signal-caller should have something left in the tank and be capable of bouncing back. It’s worth noting that Rivers had some of his best years when Indianapolis head coach Frank Reich was an assistant with the Chargers, so it’s reasonable to think he’ll be a substantial upgrade from Brissett.

Run Game Face Lift

There was nothing wrong with Indy’s running game last year with Marlon Mack rushing for over 1,000 yards and Jordan Wilkins providing work as a capable backup. Despite this, the Colts gave their backfield a huge lift in the second round of the draft when they took Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor. After a pair of 2,000-yard rushing seasons for the Badgers, Taylor should be ready to produce in the NFL and could even take the starting job away from Mack. Of course, both Taylor and Mack will get plenty of carries and will almost guarantee that the Colts have a reliable and productive rushing attack in 2020.

An Additional Target In The Pass Game

The Indy passing attack is no longer going to be T.Y. Hilton and a bunch of question marks. The Colts took USC’s Michael Pittman Jr. in the second round of the draft to give their receiving corps a boost. Pittman is a big target who should make his biggest impact in the red zone. With Zach Pascal leading the Colts in receiving last season and former second-round pick Parris Campbell a breakout candidate in his second NFL season, the Colts suddenly have a deep and talented group of wide receivers that is poised to do a lot of damage if everyone can stay healthy. Watch out for this offense in 2020!
