Take The Under On The Steelers' Season Win Total

BetQL takes a look at the Steelers' win totals for the 2022 season

Pittsburgh fans are both sad and happy to see legendary QB Ben Roethlisberger depart after almost 20 years with the organization. They are sad to see him go because of all the things he has done for the organization over the years, and the multiple Super Bowl Championships he brought to the Steel City. However, they are also happy, because he was a shell of his former self last season. Everyone eventually will lose their ability to perform at a high-level, and it was just Big Ben's time to hang 'em up.

At most sportsbooks right now, the Steelers win total is set at 7.5 or 8 depending on the book. With Roethlisberger gone, former Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky will most likely take over as the starting man. He will, of course, have to battle first-round draft choice QB Kenny Pickett for the starting job, but usually the veteran will get the nod to start the season. They have a top-tier defense that I think could take a step back in 2022, and that is part of the reason I think they go under the eight wins.

The Steelers have won three of the last six AFC North titles and have been to the playoffs in six of the last eight seasons, so success follows them everywhere they go. Mike Tomlin is an incredible head coach, and it is very difficult to bet against him, but I can't help but look at what Pittsburgh has to deal with in 2022. They have the hardest strength of schedule in the NFL next season, ranked No. 1 by how teams placed last season. The AFC as a whole is monumentally better than the NFC right now, and that doesn't help Pittsburgh's case.

It also doesn't help that their division will be an absolute gauntlet. Six games against teams that will all be in the playoff hunt, all very talented, and one that was just in the big game last year. The Bengals have Joe Burrow, who many believe could win NFL MVP next season if he stays healthy. The Ravens have former MVP Lamar Jackson still, and they are an organization that is exceptionally well-run and still very talented. The Browns you could argue got much better with new QB Deshaun Watson coming in, despite the allegations against him that could cause distraction.

Defenses always start taking a step back after a few dominant seasons, and I feel like the time is coming soon. We saw some gaps last season after the 2020 season, and now we could see more. With an offense ran by question marks in either Trubisky or rookie signal caller Pickett, it's hard to say what will happen on that side of the ball.

There are just three games on the Steeler's schedule that look like they should be certain wins. Everything else is either a probable loss, or a game that could go either way. With that type of unpredictable outcome, I'd rather take the under.
