Shocking Stat Proves Jets QB Mike White Is Top Option

Since taking over for Zach Wilson, New York Jets quarterback Mike White has reinvigorated his team’s offense with strong back-to-back performances.
En route to a 31-10 win over the Bears in Week 12, he went 22-for-28 passing for 315 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. In Week 13, he went 31-for-57 for 369 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions in a 27-22 loss to the Vikings in Minnesota.
While Jets fans have already been quick to anoint White as their QB of the future, the data suggests that he’s taken New York’s offense to the next level.
Per Michael Nania of Jets X-Factor, over White’s first six career games, the Jets have gained 2,088 offensive yards over 55 drives (38.0 yards per drive). That would rank 3rd-best among all teams this year behind only the Chiefs (41.8) and Bills (39.0).
That’s some elite company.
White’s teammates have publicly applauded him, as they’ve noticed a shift with him under center.
Per NFL Network’s Dan Hanzus, wideout Garrett Wilson said the following after their loss in Minnesota. "He was out there, controlling the huddle, never letting the moment get too big. It was cool to see. ... I know I'd go to war for that boy. He's got something special about him."
Wilson has been White’s go-to receiver, as he’s caught 13 passes on 23 targets for 257 yards and two touchdowns in the QB’s two starts. White threw him 15 passes this past week.
Offensive lineman Duane Brown commented, “He played great … he made some big time throws. I thought he kept his poise and the talk in the huddle was always positive. We never lost faith. There was never a moment we thought we were gonna lose that game,” he said, per Zach Rosenblatt of The Athletic.
New York’s offensive line has protected White well, allowing just one sack in both of his starts this year.
Now with a major test against the Bills (9-3) looming, White will have to deliver in the passing game once again. Nonetheless, it’s clear that he has the support of his teammates, the coaching staff and the Jets fanbase.
