Todd Bowles Has His Work Cut Out For Him In Week 6

He got the best of Christian McCaffrey in their first meeting, but the running back will seek vengeance

It has been the year of the backup quarterback in the NFL as we have seen numerous starters go down with injuries. The Week 5 matchup between the 2-2 Carolina Panthers and the 2-2 Jacksonville Jaguars featured two second-string quarterbacks. With both Cam Newton and Nick Foles injured for their respective teams, the Panthers started Kyle Allen while the Jaguars rolled with rookie Gardner Minshew.

The Christian McCaffrey Show

Even with two backup quarterbacks under center, it was a high scoring affair. Carolina edged out the Jaguars by the score of 34-27 and Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey went wild. The early MVP candidate erupted for 176 rushing yards on 19 carries and 61 receiving yards on six catches and also added three touchdowns on the day. It was the fourth time in five games this season that McCaffrey had 175 or more yards from scrimmage.

Even with McCaffrey’s massive game, it was Carolina’s defense that helped seal the victory. Carolina forced three turnovers and their defense came up big when they needed to.

Week 6

The 3-2 Carolina Panthers will need to pack their passports this week as they have an NFC South divisional game vs the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in London. While the Bucs opened as a one-point favorite, the Panthers will be coming into this game high full of confidence after winning three straight and looking to seek revenge after Tampa beat them in Carolina earlier in the season.

Led by defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, Tampa has the top-ranked rushing defense in the NFL and has been the only team to bottle up McCaffrey, holding him to 53 yards from scrimmage. If Carolina wants to win this one, they’ll need to get McCaffrey the ball early and often in space.
