#Saints QB Drew Brees has a torn ligament in his throwing thumb and he’s going to require surgery, sources say. The timeframe depends on the surgery, but he’s likely out 6 weeks. That’s the initial estimate.

It’s official.
Saints quarterback Drew Brees will be out for multiple weeks following a thumb injury that he suffered against the Rams in Week 2.
After Sunday’s loss, Brees didn’t know how his meeting with a hand specialist in LA would go.

Drew Brees talks about his thumb injury.
In his 19-year NFL career, Brees has missed just one game due to injury (2015 vs. Carolina)@wdsu pic.twitter.com/dmGQCorHt2
Testing revealed the damage, but he should be able to return at some point this season.
It’s now the Teddy Bridgewater show. He went 17-of-30 for 165 yards in relief of Brees against the Rams and never got the offense clicking.
The #Saints made Teddy Bridgewater the highest-paid backup in the NFL, as he chose NO over Miami. That looms large now. Sean Payton has confidence that Bridgewater can keep them alive for however long Drew Brees is out. And for Brees, at least it’s not season-ending.

This will be a major test for Bridgewater, who will certainly be using the coming weeks as an audition for a future starting gig, either on the Saints or elsewhere.
New Orleans (1-1) travels to face the Seahawks (2-0) in Seattle on Sunday, so he will be immediately tested.
