Colts at Texans Prediction For NFL Week 1

Matt Ryan makes his debut for Indianapolis

Colts at Texans Prediction For Week 1

The Colts added Matt Ryan after sending quarterback Carson Wentz to Washington, with clear expectations to get back to the playoffs. The Texans, well, they're looking at this season a little differently, with "rebuild" being the accurate word here.

Let's be honest here, these are two teams with very different aspirations heading into 2022. Over at FanDuel, Houston comes in at +350 to have the fewest wins when the season ends, followed by the Falcons (+400), Seahawks (+700), Jets (+800) and Jaguars (+900).

Davis Mills had a solid finish to the season last year, throwing 9 touchdowns and just 2 picks with a passer rating of 102.4 over his last five games, and they're clearly ready to at least see what he can do with a full offseason and training camp as the starter.

The Colts on the other hand know who Matt Ryan is, and even though we've seen a decline over the last few years, he brings a steadiness to the position they haven't had in years. Running back Jonathan Taylor is their biggest weapon anyway after rushing for 1,811 yards and 18 touchdowns, and you can expect a heavy dose of Taylor against a Texans team that allowed the second-most yards on the ground in 2021.

Houston went 8-9 against the spread last year, at least showing their was an effort to try and win given their circumstances, while the Colts went 10-7 ATS. Both also hit the under at exactly the same rate (52.9 percent), something you can expect here to open the season.
