The San Diego Chargers announced that star safety Derwin James underwent successful surgery on his injured foot and will most likely miss three months as a result.
The Chargers selected James No. 17 overall in the 2018 NFL Draft and he went on to earn first-team All-Pro honors (a very rare accomplishment for a rookie defender).
Derwin James was the 3rd defensive back to start every game and make 1st-team All-Pro as a rookie in the Common Draft Era (since 1967).

He recorded 105 tackles, three interceptions, 13 passes defended and 3.5 sacks and was the anchor of San Diego’s defense.
The Chargers are -3 favorites over the visiting Indianapolis Colts in Week 1 of the regular season despite James’ injury and the looming uncertainty of Melvin Gordon’s contract situation.
