Broncos at Seahawks Prediction For NFL Week 1

Week 1 of the NFL season is almost upon us, and the first Monday Night Football matchup will pit Russell Wilson against his former team as the Denver Broncos visit the Seattle Seahawks. The line for this game is sitting at several different numbers at multiple sportsbooks, with one book offering a -4.5 line for the Broncos and one offering -5.5. Either way, with an opening line of -4 for the game, Denver has taken most of the money since. This should definitely have been expected, but that doesn't mean it is right.

Seattle Seahawks

Denver made a huge splash this offseason by acquiring Wilson from the Seahawks. Seattle was ready to move on from the longtime QB after he won them a Super Bowl and took them to another. However, over the last few seasons, there has been a noticeable decline in the team in terms of winning, and while that all can't be blamed on Wilson for sure, it was time for Seattle to change gears and start rebuilding. It is very weird that they kept head coach Pete Carroll, who could be the reason why the team degraded over the last few seasons with his conservative play.

The defense has gone from the Legion of Boom to a total disaster as one of the worst units in the NFL, and will need to be completely rebuilt. The offense has some good key pieces, but the offensive line has been bad for years, and they now will need a QB who can make a difference in a game. Current starter Drew Lock really has not proven to be that guy, which is why Denver got rid of him to acquire Wilson.

Denver Broncos

As for the Broncos, they finally have a proven QB for the first time since Peyton Manning hung up his cleats. Wilson is a dynamic playmaker who can change a game in a hurry, and even now in his thirties, he's still got the speed necessary to use his legs to make big plays down the field. Of course, he's still an incredible talent with his arm, and he'll have the most support he's had since the early 2010's when his Seattle teams were going to championships. Unlike the Seahawks, his defense in Denver is elite, one of the best units in the NFL. His offense is stacked with talent, including Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy and Noah Fant. I think one of the biggest advantages now is that Wilson has gotten away from Carroll, who I believe has been holding him back for many years. Hopefully now he can unleash his full potential without being forced to do things he isn't comfortable with on offense.

Seattle is one of the hardest places to play, but the good news is that Denver's QB has been playing there for his entire career. I also expect fans to give him a standing ovation for all that he has done for them over the years. It's early, but Denver at -4.5 seems like the better bet.
