Are The Jets Primed To Take Flight In 2022?

Certain bettors LOVE their 2022 win total

Never did I think I would see the day that everyone was running to the booth to bet a New York Jets win total OVER. Yet, here we are, in the year 2022 and it is a reality. The Jets win total for this upcoming season is sitting at 5.5 games, so all the team has to do is get to 6 wins on the season.

You wouldn't think that would be too hard to accomplish, but for the Jets, it has been an almost impossible task for what seems like forever. Maybe this is the year that they finally show steps of improvement, at least, bettors think that is the case.

According to Caesars Sportsbook, there are 43% more bets on the Jets to hit the over than on any other team win total at their book. The case is similar at a few of our other sportsbook partners. The Jets are the popular kid in the schoolyard for once.

There is great reason to be optimistic about this upcoming season if you are a Jets fan. Head coach Robert Saleh will be entering his second year as the top man, and while the team got off to a rough start, you could tell that they were much improved from their 2020 season. Rookie QB Zach Wilson had the same type of season, struggling early on, but settling down a bit as the season went on. Now with a full offseason together, there is reason to believe improvement could be on the table.

Not only that, but their team has gotten significantly more talented this offseason, thanks in large part to having multiple first-round selections in the 2022 NFL Draft. Cincinnati cornerback Sauce Gardner will help their secondary lockdown #1 threats, while Ohio State wide receiver Garrett Wilson will take the top off opposing defenses. The Wilson to Wilson combo could be one of the more explosive ones in the league IF everything goes to plan. They also grabbed Florida State defensive end Jermaine Johnson late in the first round to help the pass rush get going, and took arguably the best RB in the draft in Iowa State's Breece Hall early in the second round.

On top of all the talent they have accumulated, the Jets' 2022 strength of schedule is decent. They rank 17th in SOS, which is right around the middle of the league. Their opponents combined for a .495 winning % in 2021, and went 142-145-2 overall.

Look for the Jets to be much improved in 2022. Maybe not a playoff berth in the tough AFC, but they should be competitive.
