Seattle Seahawks vs Philadelphia Eagles Prediction
On Monday Night football, we are treated to a matchup between two NFC Divisional leaders. However, these teams are going in opposite directions. The Seattle Seahawks enter this game rested and feeling confident after their 28-21 victory over the Arizona Cardinals last Thursday, while the Philadelphia Eagles are licking their wounds after a pitiful performance in their 22-17 loss to Cleveland. This game will be played on Monday, September 30th at 8:15 P.M EST, and the visiting Seahawks are five point favorites.
Philadelphia Eagles Preview
The Philadelphia Eagles are in first place in the NFC East, but it sure doesn’t feel like it. The team, and its quarterback, are struggling to stay ahead of one of the worst divisions in NFL history. Through 11 weeks, the Eagles are 3-6-1, and have been outscored by 34 points. They’ve lost two games in a row to the Giants and the Browns, and have an absolutely daunting schedule ahead of them. They may not even be considered the favorites to win the NFC East at this point.
Optimists can argue that injuries are the main reason for their struggles, but everyone watching these games knows that Carson Wentz looks nothing like he did in his 2017 season. Through 10 games, Wentz is only completing 58.4% of his passes for 2,328 yards, and has the same amount of touchdowns as interceptions with 14 each. Those numbers must improve for the Eagles to compete with their upcoming schedule.
Speaking of their schedule, the Eagles begin a treacherous stretch starting with this game against Seattle. After that, the team will face Green Bay, New Orleans, and Arizona, before finishing up the season against Dallas and Washington. The Eagles will not be favored in any of their next four games, and it’s imperative for them to steal a game or two. If they go winless, they’ll be 3-10-1 entering their final two games, and any hopes of winning this struggling division will go out the window. Carson Wentz and this team need to step up now.
Seattle Seahawks Preview
The Seattle Seahawks got back on track with a big 28-21 win against the Arizona Cardinals to remain tied for first in the NFC West. The NFC West has been the opposite of the NFC East this season. The Seahawks and Rams are tied for first place with a record of 7-3, and the Cardinals are right behind them at 6-4. There’s a lot more competition out west this season.
Because of this, the Seahawks have to take care of the games they’re supposed to. While Philadelphia is traditionally a tough place to play, the Seahawks won’t have to deal with the normally raucous crowd this time around. Seattle is hoping to get Chris Carson back in the fold this week after missing a number of games due to a foot injury. Carlos Hyde filled in admirably a week ago against Arizona, but Carson gives this team a much different look as they could pound the ball 25 times successfully.
After Russell Wilson was considered a lock for the MVP award early on, his simmer has sizzled a bit as of late. He’s been turning the ball over a bit more than usual, and his numbers haven’t been as impressive as they were early in the season. Against Arizona, Wilson threw for only 197 yards, but was efficient, completing 23 of his 28 attempts for two touchdowns. In the end, it was enough for the Seahawks to pick up a win, and he should improve on those numbers against a struggling Eagles defense.
Full Game Prediction
It truly is something else that these teams are both in first place, as the Eagles would be last place if they were in the NFC West. Luckily for them, all they need to do is win a couple games and they’re almost guaranteed a playoff berth. This one will be hard to get though, as Russell Wilson is one of the hardest players to stop, and the Eagles offense has not shown the ability to keep up with the more explosive offensive attacks. Expect the Eagles to need to score 25+ to win this game, and I’m not sure they’re capable of that right now.
