  • All of those returning players will make UConn a veteran team with loads of experience and talent to boot. +6000 at DraftKings Sportsbook, they are worth a small bet.

Value On UConn

The talent level has increased each year under head coach Dan Hurley and UConn Basketball showed they can hang with some big boys last season, finishing third in the Big East.

+6000 is an awfully large number for a team that is returning as many players as UConn is. They return four starters: point guard RJ Cole, wing Tyrese Martin, forward Isaiah Whaley, and center Adama Sanogo. When these four started together, they went 8-3 with Bouknight as the 5th starter.

They were 4-3 without Bouknight, but they showed potential and flashes of brilliance without him on the court. Regardless of who gets the final spot in the starting lineup, the Huskies can put out lineups full of mismatches. These players are like skyscrapers.

The Huskies have six front-court players standing in at 6’8” or taller. Yeah, that is some length right there. You’re looking at a lot of blocked shots and rebounds, especially with multiple wing players standing at 6’6” or taller.

Season Outlook

The Big East will be strong this season, there is no denying that. I would expect the conference to get 5-6 NCAA tournament berths this coming season. The Huskies seem motivated after getting a taste of post-season action last season, even if it did end in disappointment.

I would expect them to challenge for the top seed in the Big East, but probably finish somewhere between second and fourth in the conference. Either way, I don't see them missing out on a NCAA tournament berth.

One of the most important factors for this season will be the minutes distribution, rather than actually who will start. Whoever is playing the best at the current moment, that is who UConn should play through. They have a bunch of veteran guys that can play smart basketball, and they have absolutely incredible length to boot.

Hurley has never made it past the second weekend of the NCAA tournament, but he’s got his best chance yet. At 60/1 odds, this is worth a bet on a veteran team that will almost certainly get in the tournament.

BetQL has gone 153-85 (64.3%) on UConn bets all-time for a total return of $2,502. Click the button below to get prepped for an awesome college hoops season with instant access to our NFL, NCAAF and MLB offerings!
