Although no fans will be in the arena due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, UFC Fight Night 170 will take place on Saturday March 14th from Brasilia, Brazil. A highly-anticipated meeting between Kevin Lee and Charles Oliveira highlights the main card, but there are also four other fights that should capture the attention of sports fans for a couple reasons. First, nothing else will be televised (because nothing else is going on at the moment). Second, the fights will be featured on ESPN and ESPN+, so they'll be accessible. Let’s dive into five Main Card best bets featuring FanDuel’s odds (as of Friday morning).
Trinaldo is a 40-year old with a 3-3 record in his last six bouts. Makdessi is a 34-year-old who has won three-straight bouts, but hasn’t been active for a year. Although Trinaldo’s a Brazilian native, he won’t be able to take advantage of the support of a home crowd due to the prohibition, but he has more tools in his arsenal than Makdessi, who is essentially a kickboxer. BEST BET: TRINALDO
Walker has landed 69% of his strikes over his 21 career fights, compared to Krylov’s 57%. Both have a proven ability to knock out their opponents (Walker: 14, Krylov: 11), but Krylov’s 15 submissions completely trump Walker’s two. Both men like to take care of business early-on, as indicated by the fact that just one of their combined 54 fights resulted in a decision win. Walker’s 82-inch reach and 6’5 frame could give him an advantage as far as striking is concerned and he is also a more dynamic athlete than Krylov. BEST BET: WALKER
These two fighters have drastically-different styles. Moicano is a submission artist and Hadzovic is a wrestler. While Hadzovic’s style has resulted in 11 knockout victories and Moicano has never knocked out an opponent, Moicano has won by six submissions and seven decisions, a testament to his poise and stamina. If Moicano can keep his distance, land some jabs/kicks and avoid Hadzovic’s dangerous strikes, he should be able to pull this one out by decision once again. BEST BET: MOICANO
Maia has won three-straight fights and Burns has won four-straight, thus making this a matchup of two of the best grapplers in MMA. This should be a great matchup, but Burns is the better striker with a younger, new-age style that should give Maia issues. BEST BET: BURNS
While Oliveira won’t have the support of a raucous home crowd in his native Brazil, he is coming off a first-round knockout of Jared Gordon in November. That was his second-straight KO. Before that, he had four-straight submission wins and holds a UFC record 13 submission victories. Although Lee landed a kick to previously-undefeated Gregor Gillespie’s head to win his last fight, I expect Oliveira’s multi-dimensional arsenal and the fact that Lee had to cut weight in order to make the 155-pound lightweight mark to work in the Brazilian’s favor. BEST BET: OLIVEIRA
