Chet Holmgren, the No. 1 recruit in the 2021 college basketball recruiting class, committed to Gonzaga on Monday afternoon.
The Zags were the favorites to win the 2022 National Championship at +800 ahead of the announcement, but their odds quickly shifted to +700 after landing Holmgren at DraftKings Sportsbook.
The Bulldogs are coming off a 31-1 season with their lone loss coming to Baylor in the National Championship game.
Mark Few is set to bring back several key contributors from their dominant 2020-2021 club, likely including Drew Timme and Andrew Nembhard.
Holmgren and Timme would create a devastating front court duo. Holmgren is a 7’1” center who put up video-game-like numbers this past season. The Minnesota native averaged 20.8 points, 12.6 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 4.7 blocks while shooting 80% from the field
Holmgren joins ESPN’s No. 13 recruit Hunter Sallis as part of the 2021 Gonzaga recruiting class. Sallis will take over at point guard for Holmgren’s former high school teammate Jalen Suggs.
