Texas Tech hasn't had a winning season since Patrick Mahomes’ final campaign in 2015. Unfortunately for the Red Raiders, they appear to be on pace for another losing season. Texas Tech will be starting a different quarterback midseason after opening the year with Alan Bowman as their quarterback. Junior transfer Henry Colombi will start at quarterback for the second-straight game. Colombi backed up Jordan Love for much of his career at Utah State. Colombi has never thrown for 300 yards in a game in his career and has only thrown for more than 200 yards on one occasion.
The Sooners opened the season ranked third in the Associated Press poll, but fell out of the top-25 after consecutive losses at the beginning of conference play. Oklahoma has since rebounded to win their last two games. While they no longer have a realistic shot at returning to the College Football Playoff, they’ll need a win against a struggling Texas Tech team to stay in the hunt for another Big 12 Championship. After being benched for part of Oklahoma’s game against Texas, freshman quarterback Spencer Rattler has started to meet the hype that greeted him upon his arrival in Norman. Rattler has thrown for 541 yards and five touchdowns with just one interception over his last two games. In Oklahoma’s two losses, Rattler threw four interceptions.
Bettors shouldn't assume that the total in another Oklahoma-Texas Tech game will hit the over. While defense isn't something one normally associates with Oklahoma football, the Sooners are off to a strong start defensively. The Sooners rank 25th in yards surrendered per game after finishing 38th in yards surrendered last season. It takes two to tango for an over to be hit, and Colombi will only be playing his third meaningful game at quarterback. With the total set at 67 points, the under might be the safest bet in a game given Colombi’s inexperience.
