Best Value To Win 2023 College Football Title

The end of the college football season is just over a month away, which is very sad. We are all going to miss it badly when it is finally over, but we still have time to put in bets for who is going to win it all this season.

At this point in time, there are only a few teams that have realistic odds to win the college football national championship, so let's take a look at those teams to see if we can find some value.

As we currently sit, there is one team that is a massive favorite to win the title (all odds via DraftKings Sportsbook):

Georgia Bulldogs -155
Michigan Wolverines +290
Ohio State Buckeyes +1000
TCU Horned Frogs +1200
USC Trojans +1200
Alabama Crimson Tide +3000

Georgia is still a huge favorite to win the championship for a second straight season, and for good reason. They have been a top-two team all season, and they haven't lost a game all year. This Bulldog defense is outstanding, and besides a few hiccups through the tough season, it has been the most dominant unit in all of college football. After Georgia, every team has serious questions.

Michigan got the victory over its bitter rival Ohio State last week, which vaulted the Wolverines ahead of the Buckeyes and into the No. 2 CFP position. They are a well-rounded team with a great rushing attack, especially if RB Blake Corum is healthy. The defense has some problems, but they looked very competent against a fantastic Ohio State passing attack.

For the Buckeyes, that loss to Michigan was devastating. It's still possible that they don't make the CFB Playoff at all, but books seem to think they will still be in. The defense was totally exposed by the Wolverines, letting up big play after big play down the field. That was the worry all year long, and when they finally faced a great team, they couldn't hold up. The offense had its moments, but it wasn't enough to overcome the defense.

TCU will be in the playoff if they manage to beat Kansas State in the Big 12 Championship this coming week, but that game is lined under a field goal, so it's no sure thing. The Horned Frogs have a dominant offense led by Max Duggan, who was actually beat out for his job in the preseason before an injury forced him to start. Defensively, it's been an up-and-down season, but that's standard for the Big 12.

USC, in its first season under head coach Lincoln Riley, has been one of the best teams all year. I don't think anyone expected them to be this good so fast, but QB Caleb Williams is the Heisman favorite, and his play has vaulted them into this position. Their biggest issue is defense, where they have allowed a boatload of yards and points, but keep getting bailed out by forcing the most turnovers in CFB. Will their turnover luck continue against some of the better teams?

Alabama is in a very weird position right now as a team that is on the outside looking in. They need some upsets this weekend in order to get in, which is very possible. Bryce Young and the outstanding offense of the Crimson Tide have done all they can, but a very disappointing defense has led them to some very tough losses. They need help, but it isn't over yet.

MY PICK: At the current numbers, I simply can't advocate for Georgia with that much juice. They are certainly the most likely to win, but there is no value there. I would sprinkle Alabama at +3000, as it is certainly possible TCU and USC could lose, as they both are favored within a field goal. But at +1000, Ohio State has the best value, in my opinion. The Buckeyes defense has looked terrible, but the offense had an off day against Michigan. Outside of Georgia, Ohio State is the most talented team.
