Dan Karpuc's 2022 ACC Championship Best Bets

Miami (+700): First-year Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal had an instant impact in the transfer portal and added impactful talent on both sides of the ball. Quarterback Tyler Van Dyke picked up his play towards the end of last season and ended with an impressive 25 touchdowns to just six interceptions and there’s enough upside at +700 to get in on the Hurricanes here.

Louisville (+2000): Quarterback Malik Cunningham had 19 passing touchdowns compared to just six interceptions to go along with 2,941 yards and also added 1,031 yards on the ground with an amazing 20 more touchdowns there. Cunningham has the single-handed ability to take over any game and could very well end up being the most productive player in this conference, so taking a shot on his team wouldn’t be a terrible idea.

Matt Horner's ACC Champion Best Bet

NC State (+1100): While the Clemson Tigers and Miami Hurricanes are going to get all of the attention, we can find some value here with the NC State Wolfpack to win the ACC in 2022. Clemson is good, there are no doubts about that, but I for one have some serious questions about their offense and how it is going to operate next year. Miami has a new head coach and always seems to disappoint, but that could change now with a new leader. Still, the Tigers are -135 favorites and the Hurricanes are +600. I’ll take the value with the Wolfpack at 11/1 odds.

After many years of building, recruiting and developing, all the pieces seem to finally be in place for a renaissance of sorts at NC State. The Wolfpack return the most starters of any team in the ACC, with 17 from a squad that went 9-3 last fall. That includes QB Devin Leary, who had 35 TDs to just 5 INTs last year, and one of the nation’s top linebacker corps anchored by stars Payton Wilson and Drake Thomas. Leary is truly a star, and with him at the helm, this offense is set to take flight. That doesn’t mean there won’t be some concerns, as the team did lose both of their leading rushers in 2021, while also losing star LT Ikem Ekwonu. Still, this should be an explosive unit.

In addition to the return of Wilson and Thomas, the defense brings back tackle Corey Durden, as well as some key pieces in the secondary like Tanner Ingle and Tyler Baker-Williams. This is a unit that allowed just 19.7 points per game last year, and will likely be even better in 2022 with the experience.

I believe the Wolfpack have a greater chance than +1100 to win the ACC, so I’ll take that bet and bank on Clemson having another “down” year.
