Mavericks at Nuggets Preview

After blowing out the Phoenix Suns last night, the Dallas Mavericks (11-11 SU, 6-16 ATS, 13-9 O/U) travel to the Mile High City to take on the Denver Nuggets (13-9 SU, 11-11 ATS, 10-12 O/U).

Can you tell I like to target first quarters? I played the Warriors 1Q yesterday and that lost after the Pacers started unexpectedly strong, but I’m going back to the well today and backing the Nuggets early. Denver puts up a ton of points in the first quarter. They rank second in the league with just over 32.0 points per Q1 and are second in net rating. The Nuggets also have the rest advantage over the Mavs, who played last night and had to travel to Denver. And lastly, in their last two outings, Denver didn’t come ready to play and ended up losing both of those games to the Hawks and Pelicans. I expect a much more engaged group tonight from the start.

Pistons at Heat Preview

After a bad loss on the road to a depleted Grizzlies team yesterday, the Miami Heat (10-13 SU, 8-14-1 ATS, 11-11-1 O/U) return home to take on the Detroit Pistons (7-18 SU, 12-11-2 ATS, 14-11 O/U) at FTX Arena.

Despite playing a back-to-back and having to travel last night, this feels like a good bounce-back spot for the Heat tonight. All five starters played well for Miami and finished in double figures, but the bench was atrocious. Four players came off the bench last night and accounted for just 11 total points and zero assists. The Heat also got manhandled in the paint, getting outscored by Memphis, 64-24. And remember, the Grizzlies were without Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, Jaren Jackson Jr. and John Konchar, meaning that performance came from Memphis' B-Team.

Knowing what we know about "Heat Culture," I can't imagine that performance sits well with anyone. I expect a much more focused Miami team tonight ready to avenge that loss against a not-so-good Pistons squad. I like the Heat to cover the full game, and -- spoiler alert! -- I also like them to get out to a fast start in the first quarter.
