Karpuc: My Favorite Bet On Wednesday’s NBA Slate

The Pick: Hawks -7.5 vs. Kings

These two teams are moving in opposite directions at the moment, as the Hawks have won and covered the spread four consecutive times while the Kings have lost four straight, including matchups against the Pistons and Rockets in that stretch. Yikes, huh? 

The Kings have gone just 1-8 ATS in their last nine road games, could be without starting point guard De’Aaron Fox (ankle) for the second-straight game and have allowed 128 points to the Celtics, 133 points to the Bucks and 133 points to the Pistons in their last three games. As you might imagine, their defense has been essentially non-existent in those losses; they’ve allowed their opponents to shoot a ridiculous 49.8% (142-285) from the field, including a blistering 45.5% (56-123) from three-point range. 

That’s great news for the Hawks, who have averaged 119.5 points per game on their current four-game win/cover streak. Trae Young will be licking his chops before this one. The star point guard has averaged 31.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and 9.0 assists in 36.8 minutes over the last four contests and is getting back in his groove, surpassing the 30-point threshold in three of his last four games. While De’Andre Hunter (back) is questionable, Bogdan Bogdanovic (knee) practiced on Tuesday and should be good to go for this game, finally bringing the team nearly back to full strength.  

Overall, I like the potential of an Atlanta blowout in this matchup based on the opposite directions these two teams are moving in.
