Young star's injury tough blow for Nuggets

Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray injured his knee last night in a loss to the Golden State Warriors. Unfortunately this morning, his worst fears were realized when an MRI confirmed a torn ACL.

The 24-year old star put on a show in the NBA Bubble last season, and it's going to be  difficult for Denver to contend for the title without him.

Since the news came out, Denver’s title odds have plummeted.

“We did adjust the title odds and conference odds for them after the injury," said Tom Gable, Sportsbook Director of the Borgata Sportsbook. “They were 16-1 and now are 25-1 for the championship, and moved from +750 to +1200 for the conference.”

Per Patrick Eichner, Director of Communications for PointsBet Sportsbook, similar adjustments were made on their end. Denver’s odds to win it all went from 15-1 to 30-1, and odds to win the Western Conference went from 9-1 to 15-1.

PointsBet also is refunding Nuggets futures bets if their shot to win the title comes up short.

Currently, the Los Angeles Lakers are the favorites to come out of the Western Conference, sitting at around +350 in most books.

“Realistically coming out of the West, with this injury, I think it's going to come down to the Clippers and Lakers -- depending on how they look after LeBron and AD come back,” Gable said. “Count me as a non-believer in the Suns.”

This season Murray was averaging 21.4 points per game. Murray and MVP candidate Nikola Jokic are one of the best tandems in the league, and this year’s squad had a legitimate chance to make some noise in the playoffs.

Personally, the Nuggets are one of my favorite teams in the league to watch and I was looking forward to them making a title run this postseason. I feel gutted for Murray, so here’s hoping he makes a triumphant return next year...
