The Portland Trailblazer are taking on the Brooklyn Nets inside the bubble tomorrow night a 9:05 pm. Although this game may not jump off the schedule at you there are a ton of implications and could be the biggest game in the bubble so far. The Blazers hold their own destiny to try and reach the playoffs and they should get an easy win against a bizarre Nets team, but we obviously know the real question here is can the Blazers cover a spread?
The current point spread in this game is +/- 9.5 and the Blazers are the huge favorite. Keep reading our Blazers vs. Nets prediction to find out which side we are betting:
Portland Blazers Preview:
The Blazers have been one of the most exciting teams to watch inside the bubble as they have scratched and clawed to try and secure a playoff spot. Since entering the bubble the Blazers have wins over the Grizzlies, Rockets, Nuggets, Sixers and Mavericks. They dropped two games to the Celtics and Clippers along the way, but the Blazers have been nothing short of electric
Believe it or not they live and die by the play of their star guard Damian Lillard, and right now they are living large. The Trailblazers just made it out alive in their last game against the Mavs as Lillard scored 61 points and scored more than one circus shot. Obviously we all know that Dame will bring his all but what about the Blazers supporting cast?
The Blazers unlike the regular season now have a very deep roster. Since the break the Blazers welcome back two of their pivotal big men in Nurkic and Zach Collins. These big men have been invaluable for the Blazers success as they now have three big men including Hassan Whiteside to throw at their opponents. Portland has also seen the emergence of “Blazers Melo” and he is once again contributing to a winning team. The main issue with the Blazers bench has been the play of CJ McCollum, who we have just learned is playing with an injury in his back. This injury isn’t stopping him from playing, but it also isn’t stopping him from shooting the ball. He has been jacking up at least 15 shots a game every game in the bubble, but he hasn’t seen a lot of them fall. He had a very rough game against the Mavs and will be looking to bounce back.
The Blazers should easily get a win in this game against the Nets, but will they be able to blow them away? The Blazers had every opportunity to do that against the Mavs and couldn’t help them selves from playing poor defense. The Blazers may have an extremely lethal offense, but their defense leaves a lot to be desired. On nearly six straight possessions the Blazers fouled the Mavs and refused to guard the three point line efficiently. We are hoping Terry Stotts challenges his team on their day off and tries to reinvigorate them to be more active on defense.
Overall, this is a Blazers team that should be in the playoffs, but will need to prove it in their last game against the Nets. We think they can do it but getting over a 9.5 point spread isn’t easy inside the bubble. Keep reading this Nets vs. Trailblazers prediction to see if we think the Nets have what it takes to cover the spread.
Brooklyn Nets Preview:
The Brooklyn Nets may be the least inspiring 7th seed we have ever seen, but here we are. The Nets are missing a majority of their lineup but some how keep getting wins and have climbed from what we thought was surely to be the 8th seed up to the 7th seed in the East. The Nets have wins over the Wizards, Bucks, Kings, Clippers, and Magic. They have lost games to the Magic and Celtics, which is pretty surprising. Everyone wrote off this team early and now they are looking at a 5-2 team in the bubble.
The Nets have been led by a pair of talented players Joe Harris and Caris Levert. They are both lethal three point shooters and they have seen their shots fall in Orlando. One of the biggest surprises in the bubble has been the play of Nets bench players, more specifically TLC, Tyler Johnson, and Chris Chiozza. These were guys that the Nets found on top of the trash heap, who are now contributing double digits every game.
Although the Nets aren’t getting 100% from all their opponents it still isn’t that easy to get wins in the NBA. The Nets have been getting the job done and we think it is a tough match up for the Blazers. If you are reading this Nets Blazers prediction because you want to see if the Nets will cover the spread, there is a big possibility that they will. The Blazers aren’t great at defending the three point line and the Nets excel at hitting threes. Keep reading below to see our final Blazers Nets prediction
Brooklyn Nets vs Portland Trailblazers Final Prediction
The +/- 9.5 point spread is a ton of points inside the bubble, which is going to make it difficult to give a real Blazers Nets prediction here, but we like the Blazers in this game. Although we like the Blazers 9.5 points is a lot and we can only see this spread increasing from here. The Blazers need to win this game and the Nets are locked into the 7th seed, but that doesn’t mean we think the Nets wont put in effort. We would recommend trying to snag this game right when the spread drops. Public bettors are going to be all over the Blazers in this game so expect the line to jump. Although the Blazers are going to win this game, we aren’t so confident they can cover a big spread here. The Nets don’t exactly have huge stars who won’t be playing so we think they may be able to keep this game close. Remember earlier in the bubble when the Nets were +18.5 against the Bucks and beat them straight up? This spread is getting a bit too big for us and we are leaning towards the underdog. This game would be a great tease opportunity to tease the Nets up to double digits.
