PICK: Phillies ML +125

The Astros are looking like a team that’s ready to close out in Game 6. But given the twists in this series, the Phillies aren’t going to go down without a fight. The day off on Friday will also help to swing the advantage toward the Phillies, who are 7-0 during the playoffs following an off day. The day off will give the Phillies a chance to rest their bullpen and have their top relievers at full strength. The Philadelphia bullpen was problematic during the regular season, but when they’ve been fresh, the bullpen arms have performed.

On top of that, Zack Wheeler is a virtual lock to pitch at least five or six innings to help ensure the Phillies only have to use their best relievers. Despite taking the loss in Game 2, Wheeler has a 2.67 ERA in the playoffs and gets the ball in a must-win game. Wheeler will do his part to ensure the Philadelphia bullpen is set up for success. As long as the Phillies can keep their postseason power surge going, they can provide another twist in this series that will force a Game 7.

PICK: Under 7

Assuming Wheeler is able to get back on track after his struggles in Game 2, Saturday’s contest figures to be another tight, low-scoring affair. Every game since Game 1 of this series has finished with seven runs or fewer with at least one team being stifled offensively. Even in a hitter-friendly ballpark with power hitters up and down each lineup, the runs haven’t exactly been flowing over the last four games.

With Wheeler, Framber Valdez, and two fresh bullpens, that trend is likely to continue. While Wheeler has a 2.67 ERA in the playoffs, Valdez has posted a 1.42 ERA during his three postseason starts. The lefty has shown a complete mastery of Philly’s lineup over the last month. Between his start against the Phillies in Game 2 and during the final series of the regular season, Valdez has allowed one run on six hits over 11.1 innings against the Phillies, striking out 19 in the process. Even if Valdez isn’t perfect, the Houston bullpen has allowed just five earned runs in the entire postseason, totaling 51.1 innings. Once the Astros get to their bullpen, the Phillies aren’t likely to score much, which will help keep the scoring in this game low.

PICK: No Run 1st Inning (-155 at DraftKings)

Early runs have been a theme during the World Series, but that’s not necessarily a good bet in Game 6. The three runs Wheeler gave up in the first inning of Game 2 were the first runs he’s allowed during the first inning this postseason. He also had a 1.38 ERA in the first inning during the regular season, making the runs he gave up in Game 2 an aberration. Valdez has also been sharp early in games, not allowing any first-inning runs in his three playoff starts this year. It was a similar case during the regular season when he pitched to a 2.90 ERA in the first inning of games, making early scoring in Game 6 unlikely.
