Now that the All-Star game is over and done with, everyone in the sports betting space will be looking to find a World Series future bet that will pay off big-time when the season ends. We do this at the beginning of the season too, but right after the All-Star break is when there is another chance to assess where teams are at, and possibly try to get out of one of your future bets that might not be looking so good.
The teams we look for are usually teams that are right on the verge of competing, and have odds that show significant value. I can already see multiple teams on the board right now that show some potential to make a run and compete for a World Series, and they have pretty good odds too. However, there is one team in particular that grabs my attention unlike the others, and it is probably a team that will make you roll your eyes and think I am crazy. Hear me out though, as I think this team has a real chance to still make a run and compete for a championship.
Wait, don’t click the back button yet! I know how tempting that must be, because I find betting the Yankees to be just as frustrating and infuriating as the next guy. This is a team that has no business being at this long of odds to win the World Series. In fact, the Yankees were the second favorite to win it all at the start of the season, at around +300 and have since sank all the way down here to +2100. I mighty fall from grace for such a talented team, but I will admit, it is warranted right now.
The Yankees have been one of the biggest disappointments of the 2021 MLB season. Scratch that, they have been THE biggest disappointment of the season. They entered the second half tied with the Toronto Blue Jays for third in the American League East, and now sit at 50-45, still eight games behind the Boston Red Sox for first place. With the salary that they employ on a nightly basis, it honestly is unacceptable to be this far out and have a mere +9 run differential through 95 games of the season, but that’s exactly where they stand. It seems like they find a new way to lose each contest, as they allowed Boston to win in extra innings Thursday night without giving up a hit in a game they led 4-3.
Despite having a mediocre home record of 27-23 and a very disappointing team ERA of 3.80, they are still right there in contention to make the postseason. They are just 4.5 games back of the Oakland Athletics for the final AL Wild Card spot, and with the way Oakland has a tendency to crumble at the end of the season, I think New York still can easily make the postseason and have a chance to win it all. If there is one thing you know about the New York Yankees, it’s that they are not afraid to spend and spend big when it comes to improving their team.
You know that they will be looking to do just that at the non-waiver trade deadline that is coming up shortly, and don’t be surprised when that big name you keep seeing ends up in the big apple.
There is just too much value in the Yankees right now for myself or anyone else to not take at least a piece. This is tremendous value for a team that has been a massive failure to this point, yet still is right in the thick of contention within the AL. With the additions they are sure to make come the trade deadline, these odds will keep going down. They already have been since the All-Star break, when they were +2500. You may have missed that number, but you can still pick them up right now at just about any book at 21/1 odds. That is tremendous value on a team this talented that just needs to right the ship.
