Now that the 2021 MLB season is over, it's a great time to look at the futures odds for 2022.
The 2021 season ended as perfectly as it possibly could for the Atlanta Braves, but what are their odds to win the NL pennant next season as they look to repeat as champions?
Let's see where the Braves are on the odds list, as well as the odds for every other NL team to take the 2022 pennant. See who's favored and which team is in the basement.
Los Angeles Dodgers | +275 |
Atlanta Braves | +425 |
San Diego Padres | +800 |
Milwaukee Brewers | +800 |
San Francisco Giants | +800 |
New York Mets | +900 |
St. Louis Cardinals | +1300 |
Philadelphia Phillies | +1500 |
Cincinnati Reds | +2000 |
Washington Nationals | +3500 |
Chicago Cubs | +4000 |
Miami Marlins | +4000 |
Colorado Rockies | +4000 |
Pittsburgh Pirates | +6000 |
Arizona Diamondbacks | +10000 |
The Los Angeles Dodgers are the favorite to win the NL pennant this season and it’s for good reason that they are first on this list.
The Dodgers won a staggering 106 games in the 2021 season and they deserve to be favored here with +275 odds. Right behind the Dodgers are your World Series champion Braves, who just won it all over the Houston Astros. So their second-place spot here isn’t shocking.
The San Diego Padres, Milwaukee Brewers and San Francisco Giants are all tied with +800 odds. Of these three, I’d take the Giants to take the NL pennant next season. They finished this season 107-55 and I would even have expected their odds to open a bit shorter.
And the New York Mets have +1000 odds. They finished their season 77-85 and I would have thought these odds would’ve opened longer. Certainly not this close to the Giants’ odds.
I think there’s some decent value in the Giants’ odds. Even after Buster Posey’s retirement, they could make another run like they did this season and go even further in the postseason.
At the bottom of the list we have the Chicago Cubs, Miami Marlins and Colorado Rockies all tied with +4000 odds, the Pittsburgh Pirates with +6000 odds and then the Arizona Diamondbacks dead last with much longer +10000 odds.
It's not exactly shocking that the Diamondbacks land at the bottom here, as they ended last season with a dismal 52-110 record so the expectations for them next season aren’t exactly high.
But a sleeper I would take here would be the Cubs. They’ll likely be making some noise this offseason and I could see them adding free agent Kyle Schwarber, who had a career year last season with 32 home runs and a trip to the ALCS, back to the lineup. A bunch of their players are departing and I would think they’ll be willing to spend money to fill those gaps.
