Red Sox Odds To Win The AL Pennant Should Be Shorter

The Red Sox have a better chance to win the AL pennant this season than their odds suggest

The Boston Red Sox had one heck of a run last season. And it was one that very few expected.

The team went deep into the postseason and reached the ALCS on a rocket ship to the World Series before the Houston Astros defeated them (before they went on to lose the World Series).

Boston’s odds to win the AL pennant this season are +950, sixth on the list behind the Chicago White Sox, Houston Astros, New York Yankees, Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays. The Red Sox could very well play into October again this season and their odds to win the AL pennant should be shorter.

Based on how they fared at the end of last season, the Red Sox’ odds to win the AL pennant should at least be shorter than the Yankees’ odds. The Red Sox beat them in the Wild Card game, after all, finishing the regular season with the same 92-70 record. So remember that the Red Sox even went further into the postseason than New York.

The Yankees’ odds to win the AL pennant are at +538 behind the White Sox and Astros. This is where the Red Sox should be. No way they should be behind the Yankees. New York started off last season terribly and there’s a chance they could do the same this year. Even Brian Cashman was saying in the middle of last season that the team looked like trash. His exact quote being, “We suck right now.” Especially with Aaron Boone returning as the manager, how do we know this team will start off any better than they did last season?

I have all the confidence in the world that Chaim Bloom is going to go all out to stack this Red Sox team during this offseason (after the lockout ends and we have to keep the faith that it certainly will before too long) to make another run at the World Series. They had a taste of success last season and defied expectations. They’re going to want to get back to that place this year and their odds to do so should be shorter than they are right now and definitely shorter than the Yankees' odds.
