Washington Nationals (-110, 9) vs. San Francisco Giants - 1:05 PM EST

After looking over the hill the past few seasons, Johnny Cueto has been excellent in 2021. He has a 3.71 ERA and a 3.19 FIP, meaning that he is actually pitching better than it would appear.

He’ll face a Washington Nationals team that is 21st in wRC+. The team has struggled to generate run scoring opportunities and also isn’t very disciplined either, drawing the sixth fewest walks in the league.

Cueto has seen the Nats lineup plenty of times in his career, limiting them to a .259 batting average in 139 at bats.

However, one player who has had his number is Ryan Zimmerman, who has hit .353 against Cueto in 17 at bats.

As for the Nationals, they’ll send veteran Joe Ross to the mound to try and win the rubber match. In 30 at bats against Giants hitters, he has held them to a .233 batting average.

Ross is looking to build on a strong last start, six innings of shutout baseball while Trea Turner looks to stay hot. Turner is hitting over .300 this month.
