MLB Gas Cans Of The Day For Saturday, Oct. 1

Opposing offenses are in great spots

Cleveland Guardians vs. Kris Bubic (5.81 ERA), Kansas City Royals

The Guardians have already locked up the AL Central after the White Sox quit on the season, and they have proven they are the best team in this division overall. They are very young, but they have a ton of talent and potential, and making the postseason this year is a huge accomplishment with the roster they have. The rest of the regular season doesn't really matter that much for Cleveland, but they are still playing their starters. That is not good news for Royals starting pitcher Kris Bubic.

In his last start, Bubic pitched 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on five hits and four walks while striking out six batters in a no-decision versus Seattle. He threw only 57 of 103 pitches for strikes and walked four batters. He finally put a halt to a streak of seven straight losing starts that extended back to mid-August. Bubic had posted an ugly 7.83 ERA and 2.10 WHIP during the poor stretch, but he finally put together a start that wasn't an absolute disaster.

Los Angeles Angels vs. Cole Ragans (5.40 ERA), Texas Rangers

The Angels season is over once again, and once again, they are going to miss the playoffs. At this point, it's like clockwork. When will Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani get a chance to perform in the postseason? I'm not sure they will ever do so in an Angels uniform, because that team does not know how to win. The good news is that they will have a great chance to win this game with Cole Ragans pitching on the Rangers side.

In his last game, Ragans took the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and one walk over five innings against the Guardians. He struck out three. This marked his first start of at least five innings since Aug. 17, which is a concerning stat when evaluating a guy. He either can't make it that long in a game, or he's just being pulled for being bad.

Detroit Tigers vs. Dylan Bundy (4.93 ERA), Minnesota Twins

It isn't very often that I would go with the Detroit Tigers to do much of anything. Even more rare is that I'm not writing about THEIR pitcher in this article, but rather, an opposing pitcher. Detroit isn't a very good offensive team, they actually are one of the bottom few in the league, but this is a great spot to take them against Twins pitcher Dylan Bundy.

In his last start, Bundy allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out two in 3.1 innings to take the loss during a game against the Angels. He hasn't been very effective recently, and this start marked his fourth consecutive outing in which he's failed to last at least five innings. Although he's been charged with just two losses across that span, he's posted a 9.18 ERA in 16.2 innings over those four starts.
