Dodgers Have Sleeper In 2021 NL MVP Race

Consider betting on Max Muncy for NL MVP

  • Bryce Harper and Fernando Tatis Jr. dominate the NL MVP conversation, but Max Muncy should be mentioned as well.

  • Muncy's +2000 odds to win NL MVP offer bettors significant value.

  • Muncy has more home runs at this point this season than Harper.

When you think of this year’s NL MVP race, I’m sure the Phillies' Bryce Harper, the favorite, and the Padres' Fernando Tatis Jr. come to mind. But the Dodgers' Max Muncy should be in the conversation as well.

Harper’s NL MVP odds are -125 at BetMGM and DraftKings Sportsbook, and -130 at FanDuel Sportsbook; Tatis Jr.’s odds are +100 at BetMGM, +110 at FanDuel and +105 at DraftKings.

While those two have been racking up stats, Muncy has been quietly doing the same. His odds to win the NL MVP at BetMGM, FanDuel Sportsbook and DraftKings Sportsbook are +2000 and I see definite value here.

Why There Is Value In Muncy For NL MVP

The Los Angeles Dodgers slugger could very well hit 40 home runs this season. He has 34 as of Tuesday, one more than Harper at 33. While Muncy has 115 hits to Harper’s 140, the Dodgers slugger has 86 RBIs, while Harper has just 80. Tatis Jr. comes in with 39 home runs, 123 hits and 92 RBIs.

Based on these numbers, I don’t see why Muncy can’t be the NL MVP. Plus, his Dodgers team is on the heels of the San Francisco Giants battling for the top spot in the NL West and are still favored to win the World Series with +270 odds at BetMGM.

Harper, Tatis Jr. Are Overrated

The San Diego Padres are watching their playoff hopes dwindle as they’ve slipped in the wild-card race and Tatis Jr. seems to be falling apart right with them. Tatis Jr. got into a dugout spat with teammate Manny Machado and that just doesn’t seem to me to be the attitude of an MVP. He’s feeling the pressure with the Padres on the verge of missing the playoffs.

As for Harper, his Philadelphia Phillies are three games back in the NL East and their odds to win the World Series are +5000 at BetMGM. Of these three, Muncy’s team is faring the best as the playoffs near.  He deserves more consideration for NL MVP and I believe there’s value in his +2000 odds to win it.
