Max Scherzer Is On His Way To Fourth Cy Young Award

The Dodgers star has had a remarkable career so far, and he looks to be adding to that this year with his fourth Cy Young award.

  • Scherzer leads the majors with a 2.28 ERA and 0.83 WHIP in addition to ERA+ and the lowest rate of hits allowed. It also doesn't hurt that the Dodgers have literally won every single one of his starts since being traded over from Washington. He has been his usual dominant self.

  • At -165, I feel like this number is a little low. He was -210 just a few days ago, so take it while you can get it.

Mad Max Looks To Lock Up His Fourth Cy Young

I think he's pretty much got this thing in the bag at this point. Scherzer leads the majors with a 2.28 ERA and 0.83 WHIP in addition to ERA+ and the lowest rate of hits allowed in baseball. These are all impressive numbers, but some will point out his workload.

At 174.0 innings, his workload isn't big compared to some of the other contenders, but he's done enough in those innings that he is still the frontrunner for the award. He has 232 strikeouts, blazing fastballs by opposing batters with that same type of look in his majestic multi-colored eyes. It also doesn't hurt that the Dodgers have literally won every single one of his starts since being traded over from Washington.

He is only -165 right now at DraftKings Sportsbook, a generous offer since I think he has pretty much locked this one in. For some reason, he has actually gone down in odds, as he was -210 earlier this week. There is money coming in on Philadelphia Phillies ace Zach Wheeler, and understandably so, as he has been great this year and has value at +2000.

Other Contenders

While Scherzer is the favorite, you can't count out some of these other guys just quite yet. For the fans of pitchers with a heavy workload, Wheeler leads the majors with 206 1/3 innings pitched. He also leads the league with 240 strikeouts, mowing people down.

Even with his heavy workload, he sits fifth in ERA and fifth in WHIP. That has pushed him to lead in WAR right now, which is a huge reason some believe he could sneak in and steal the award away from Scherzer. I wrote up an article on this earlier this week, and +2000 is great value.

Corbin Burnes is another contender, but he is at only +110 right now. I think Scherzer is much more likely to win the award than he is, and it is not that much of a difference.
