How Padres' World Series Odds Moved After Fernando Tatis Jr. Suspension

In some shocking news out of baseball, Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr. has been suspended for 80 games after testing positive for PEDs. This is a massive disappointment for the Padres, who just signed him to a 14-year, $340 million extension in 2021.

Tatis Jr. also had been rehabbing from a wrist injury he sustained during the offseason, so he'll ultimately miss the entire 2022 season. And the Padres made their feelings known in their statement on this latest news, when president of baseball operations A.J. Preller said, "We were hoping that from the offseason to now that there would be some maturity, and obviously with the news today, it’s more of a pattern, and it’s something that we’ve got to dig a bit more into."

This news has also caused some movement for the Padres World Series odds, so let's take a look at how their odds have changed.

Before the Tatis Jr. news, the Padres' odds to win the World Series were at +1100, having moved from +2000 following the Juan Soto trade; now you can get them at +1800 at FanDuel. Their odds to win the NL West are at +4500 at FanDuel and as long as +10000 at DraftKings. To win the NL pennant, they are at +1100 at FanDuel and +800 at DraftKings.

Last season, Tatis Jr. had 42 home runs, 135 hits and 97 RBIs. His suspension also rules him out for this postseason and loses him his place on the Dominican Republic's team for the World Baseball Classic. So, yeah, this is a shame.
