Underdog Picks For Monday

Brad Pinkerton: Red Sox +155 at Blue Jays

Consider this pick a tribute to Lucy Burdge, who's on vacation this week. Red Sox right-hander Connor Seabold is making his 2022 debut (and just the second start of his career), which is the main reason the Red Sox are listed as underdogs at Toronto, and I think that creates great value on one of the hottest teams in baseball. Boston has won seven straight and is 19-4 in the last 23 games. Even with a rookie on the hill, I'll take that momentum at +155, especially with the Blue Jays stumbling lately.

Dan Karpuc: Fever +250 at Mercury
Ah, it’s that time of the year. Let’s get into some WNBA. The Fever (5-14) might be in the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings at the moment, but the Mercury (7-12) haven’t been much better and currently sit in second-to-last place in the Western Conference standings. Indiana is going to have a massive advantage on the glass in this contest; they rank first in the WNBA in offensive rebounds per game (10.6) while the Mercury rank dead-last (5.6). Phoenix also ranks dead last in total rebounding and these teams rank first and second in total fouls committed, so I expect a very gritty, physical game. Indiana’s Kelsey Mitchell (19.0 points, 4.1 assists in 32.7 minutes over 19 games) should be the best player on the floor and dropped 26 points against Phoenix back on June 15. However, the real edge here is created because superstar center Tina Charles negotiated her release from the Mercury, thus leaving her team with a massive void in the post. Give me the Fever +250 to win this game outright.
