Cliff Floyd: Giants Are Going to Win the NL West

Floyd's Thoughts on the Giants, Padres, and Dodgers

Yesterday, former MLB player Cliff Floyd joined Ken Barkley and Chris Rongey on You Better You Bet to talk about the current MLB season.

Here are the nuggets that stuck out:

Floyd on the NL West Race and If the Giants Will Win the Division

Yes, I think the Giants have weathered the storm. I think the Dodgers have a few question marks. Then you look at everything else. How is Trea going to fit in this lineup? Can you get Cody Bellinger to look like he is not hurt? The MVP player Mookie Betts hasn't had a great season. I don't think they sured up the bullpen like they should've. I've always been a huge fan of Kenley Jansen, but I just don't know which one we are going to get down the stretch.

You don't have the luxury that you've had in the past as far as the standings. They've had a luxury for years, where they'd be 10-12 games up in the NL West and they'd be resting players. Resting Kershaw, resting certain players to get ready for the postseason. They don't have that anymore.

Then the Giants just said we are going to add a guy that fits just perfectly in our lineup in Kris Bryant. They are going to get Evan Longoria back and then they can move Kris Bryant all around the field. And, he is a stud. When he's healthy, moving around, I think Gabe Kapler has a stud on a first place team. That's all they were looking for, they have everything else they need.

On the flip, with the Padres, I don't know how you can expect them to do anything without Tatis Jr. not in that lineup. Chris Paddack is injured. Then you look around at that rotation and you look at Blake Snell who has not pitched great. Let's just call a spade a spade. He has not been the guy we've seen in the past with the TB Rays. I don't know what is going on with him, but he looks like he's talking to himself out there on the mound. I know for a fact that Blake Snell is way better than this.
