Cubs Injuries
Player Image
Brad WieckCHC
Could benefit from layoff
Wieck underwent a procedure for an irregular heartbeat in February and might not have been ready for the normal start to the regular season. However, with that start date now up in the air, Wieck could potentially be ready to go whenever play resumes. The lefty was playing catch prior to the delay and was nearing a return to mound work. He'll likely need some time facing live hitters before he's able to officially join the team, but he figures to help the bullpen sooner rather than later.

Xavier CedenoCHC
Shifts to 60-day IL
Cedeno has already been on the shelf for over 60 days, so this appears to be simply procedural. The Cubs will be able to add David Phelps to the 40-man roster following Tuesday's move.

Player Image
Allen WebsterCHC
Outrighted to Triple-A
Webster threw 11 innings for the Cubs early in the season, allowing six earned runs, before going down with a nerve issue in his right arm in mid-May. He never returned to the big leagues, though he did pitch six rehab innings over the final three months of the season, which would seem to bode well for his availability heading into the 2020 campaign.

Seranthony DominguezPHI
Stuck in limbo
Dominguez went to his home country just before the island nation elected to restrict travel. The righty is stuck resting and rehabbing until he can return to the United States for a second opinion. The delay could wind up costing Dominguez the entirety of the 2021 season in addition to the 2020 campaign if surgery is indeed required, as the procedure typically carries a recovery time of considerably more than just one year.
OUT
Player Image
Pat NeshekPHI
Option declined by Phillies
The 39-year-old was plagued by shoulder and hamstring injuries in 2019, which may have helped contribute to a 5.00 ERA over 20 appearances. It's unclear whether a team will take a chance on the right-hander after he only managed to log 42.1 innings over the past two seasons due to injuries, but he likely won't make a large fantasy impact as a middle reliever with a lackluster strikeout rate.

Tommy HunterPHI
Expected to open on injured list
The Phillies brought Hunter back on a major-league deal despite the fact that the veteran is still recovering from surgery on his right flexor tendon. This time last season, he was also dealing with a flexor issue, which wound up keeping him out until late June. It doesn't appear that things will go the same way this season, however, as he's already throwing regular bullpen sessions.

David RobertsonPHI
Potentially benefitting from delay
Robertson underwent Tommy John surgery back in August of 2019, so his goal of being back halfway through the campaign may have always been overly ambitious. Still, if the season extends into October and beyond, there's a much greater chance of the veteran making an impact than had previously seemed possible. Robertson has thrown just 6.2 innings for the Phillies since singing a two-year, $23 million deal with the team prior to the 2019 campaign, but he has 137 career saves to his name and could potentially add a handful more if and when he returns.

Enyel De Los SantosPHI
Dealing with hamstring issue
If De Los Santos is indeed back on the mound in three weeks, he'll still have three more weeks before Opening Day, so there's a chance he'll still be able to open the season on the active roster. That's far from guaranteed even if he's healthy, however, as he owns a 5.70 ERA in 30 career big-league innings.

Andrew McCutchenPHI
Confirms he will be ready
He has been working out five days per week in Florida. The Phillies would have been without McCutchen for the first month of the season if it had started on time, but the delayed start will allow him to finish rehabbing his torn ACL that was operated on last June.
DTD
Player Image
Robert StockPHI
Nursing forearm tightness
Girardi added that Stock could be dealing with a flexor tendon issue, though the team won't know until he undergoes additional testing. The Phillies will certainly proceed cautiously with Stock, as forearm tightness can often be the precursor to a more serious injury.
DTD
Player Image
Victor AranoPHI
Remains optimistic for Opening Day
Previous reports indicated that Arano wasn't expected to return from arthroscopic elbow surgery until early in the regular season, but the pitcher himself evidently disagrees with those reports. A player's own optimism about his health shouldn't be taken as gospel, though, and he's yet to pitch in a Grapefruit League game, so the odds appear to be against him. Still, the 25-year-old, who owns a career 2.65 ERA in 74.2 innings, should be pitching in a fairly high-leverage role at some point early in the season.
