After a loaded field at The CJ Cup a week ago, things will look slightly different this week at the 2022 Butterfield Bermuda Championship, which has a $6.5 million purse.
At No. 48 in the Official World Golf Rankings, Seamus Power is the highest-ranked player in the field. In total, just four players in the top 100 are teeing it up.
With that in mind, this is a week to target long shots and take a relatively conservative approach. At 6,828 yards, Port Royal Golf Course is one of the shortest courses players will play all year. But, the course can play much longer in windy and rainy conditions.
With that being said, it seems putting is the biggest statistic to target when picking players. Only three top-10 finishers in 2021 were outside the top 15 in putts per round.
Power is the highest-ranked player in the field, and I like him to have a strong showing but not just because of that. He’s 12th on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained on the greens, which has proven to be important at Port Royal.
Sigg is another player who I’m backing because of his putting. He ranks 17th this year in Strokes Gained: Putting. Additionally, he’s 3-for-3 in cuts made this season and earned a top-25 at this event a year ago.
Lastly, Ghim is a value play based on his success at some of the shorter courses.
Season Record: 3-12, -5.5 units (Last week: 0-4, -3 units)
